Many of these “ribbers” have been featured on several national TV networks including the Food Channel, TLC and the Discovery Channel’s “Pitmaster.” Taste not only ribs but beef brisket, chopped and sliced pork, chicken, sausages and a plethora of side items, desserts and drinks prepared Memphis-style, Chicago-style, Texas-style and more. The Story:
Having established a successful RibFest in Winston-Salem, NC (Twin City RibFest) in 2005, event producer Allen McDavid(AKA Entertainment & Media, LLC.) launched the first Port City RibFest at the Battleship USS North Carolina Memorial Park in August, 2013.
Even though it was on the hottest day of the year it proved to be successful, as 17,000 people showed up. After two years at the Battleship, the festival moved across the Cape Fear River to what will be North Waterfront Park.
Because the park’s construction will begin soon, RibFest promoter Allen McDavid decided to hold the Fifth Annual Port City RibFest at Carolina Beach.
In an attempt to escape the summer heat the date was also moved to November. Despite unseasonable chilliness a great crowd showed up and the foundation for a long run on Pleasure Island was laid.
In changing the date once more for 2018, McDavid is hoping to find a happy medium temperature-wise.
