The quaint, coastal town of Southport, North Carolina is known for its idyllic charm to it’s historical role in the region. It is also known for its many galleries thriving art scene. Numerous talented artists work in all mediums and love to show off their talents!
The first Friday of each month art galleries in the Southport area team up to promote a Gallery Walk. Art enthusiasts are welcome to participate in this cultural event each first Friday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
This is a great way to explore the galleries and art of the town, while enjoying a
evening of eating, drinking and listening to music.
If you’ve never experienced the First Friday Gallery Walk, now is this Friday is a perfect time as weather is warming up and the days are getting longer. If you have taken part in this event before, then you will likely be one of those who come back time and time again!
The First Friday Gallery Walk is free to the public and starts at 5pm at the Franklin Square Gallery where you can enjoy some wine and appetizers while perusing the art of many of the area’s top local artists.
The gallery is a work of art itself and has played an important part in Southport’s history. Since 1904 it has served as a school house, the town hall and a library.
From Franklin Square, you can enjoy an easy stroll as you visit each of the participating galleries (see listings below). At each stop you’ll find friendly folks to greet you making new friends along the way.
The many venues feature food and drinks and many times live music. The pleasant streets are filled a happy vibe. When you are through with the gallery walk you can stop for a delicious dinner at one of Southport’s many great restaurants. It’s a great way to start off the first weekend of any month!

Franklin Square is a Southport staple and features local artists and fine gifts. The gallery has been run by volunteer artists from The Associated Artists of Southport for over 30 years.

Howe Outrageous is an eclectic collection of fine arts, fine crafts, unique jewelry and other handmade goods inspired by the Cape Fear region. They also offer classes for everyone, from serious students to paint and pour parties.

Ricky Evans is a well-known artists throughout the region whose body of work includes landmarks and scenes along the Southeaster coast, including his famous lighthouse series. He features regional artists and the gallery itself has come to epitomize the Coastal Carolina culture.

Lantana’s is a family-run gallery of local art, crafts, jewelry and many handcrafted and unique gift options. They offer over 50 local, regional and national artists varying from traditional to unconventional in a wide variety of mediums.

Silver Coast Gallery features an eclectic gift shop and art gallery as well as a wine shop where you can sample and purchase their award-winning wine. They prove that wine and art are the perfect pairing.
