Rims on the River is an annual event that takes place this year on October 29, 30 & 31, 2021, with the car show occurring on Saturday the 30th. The show is in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Cars dating 1980 and older, line the streets of the historic downtown area, with the Cape Fear River and the diverse collection of retail stores as their backdrop. The event has drawn a wide array of cars from the entire southeast region of the state, as well as a few neighboring states, totaling approximately 600 vehicles on display last year and with approximately 40,000 attendees. As always, the event is free and open to the public.
It is always our intention to be innovative and add new and interesting additions to this show, as this is what continues to retain people’s interest in this always-evolving event. This year will be no exception as we plan this full weekend event. Friday evening, we “Welcome to Rims On The River Weekend” everyone, and invite you to visit several of downtown’s entertainment venues.
Saturday morning, we begin the parking of the show vehicles at 9:00 am, with the public display beginning at 11:00 am.
Pin-Up Contest will be happening once again, in front of the downtown Post Office, located at the corner of N. Front and Chestnut St., at approximately 3:30 pm. As the car show draws to an end with the announcement and trophy presentation for the show winners at approximately 4:00 pm in front of the Post Office, with the show finishing up at 5:00 pm. Show vehicles must then park into legal parking spaces, or leave the event area to allow us to reopen the streets to regular vehicular traffic.
To round out the weekend, Sunday afternoon we will be inviting everyone to enjoy a leisurely cruise, departing at 12:00pm from the Cape Fear Community College Schwartz Center. This year’s cruise will be going to Moore’s Creek Battlegrounds Park, an approximate 35-minute, one-way ride.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
