It’s Pear Season… but what can you do with all those pears? This simple but delicious recipe makes two of the best pear tarts you’ll ever taste!
About this time of year, my wonderful husband goes for a daily morning walk with our dog. They stop by a field near where we live at Shallotte Point, NC and pick pears…. lots of them!
He comes home with big grocery bags filled with them.
I mean it is wonderful to eat a fresh, delicious pear in the morning for breakfast but we had so many pears we could never eat them all at that pace!
So many years ago I conferred with a dear friend who lives in the neighbor about what in the heck to do with all of these pears.
And so began our love affair with these scrumptious Pear Tarts. Over the years we have eaten lots of them! They have also made a really nice gift to family and friends.
It’s a delicious recipe and I always have one left in the freezer by the time next pear season rolls around. For the best Pear Tart in the South here’s the recipe:
(This recipe makes two pies)
What you will need:
Approximately 1 dozen pears (6 pears per pie)
2 – Pie crusts
1 – Tablespoon of honey
2 – Cups sugar
1 – Stick of butter
4 – Eggs
2 – Teaspoons of almond extract
1/4 – Cup of sliced almonds
What to do:
Brush edge of crust with additional egg if desired
Bake at 350 for about 1 hour.
