Celebrate National Lighthouse Day with a weekend of celebrations at North Carolina’s oldest lighthouse, Old Baldy!
Celebrations kick off on Friday, August 2nd with a Roaring 20’s Historic Happy Hour at 6 p.m. at the Old Baldy Ligthouse.
Then the annual rubber duck race will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 11 a.m.
On Sunday, August 4th at 4 p.m. will be the Run for the Light and National Lighthouse Day Festival. The festival will include games, free climbs of Old Baldy, bbq, beer, wine and more! The Run for the Light course is a scenic run near coastal dunes and through the maritime forest on Bald Head Island. The whole course features an all-asphalt surface, with splits and water at the 1-, 3- and 5-mile marks. This event is perfect to showcase one of North Carolina’s most beautiful beaches and maritime forests – it will be one to mark off your bucket list!
This year the celebrations will also include a concert by Craig Woolard and Friends on Monday, August 5th from 6 – 9 p.m. Beer, wine, water and soda will be available for purchase. No outside beverages will be allowed. Outside food is allowed.

A Special Edition Historic Happy Hour Featuring the Roaring 20’s on Bald Head Island
Join us on the Old Baldy Grounds for a Historic Happy Hour under the stars at 6 pm! We will be toasting the roaring 20’s on Bald Head when flappers and prohibitionists enjoyed the island’s first beach resort developed by Thomas Franklin Boyd. Celebrate this watershed moment in Bald Head Island History by enjoying cocktails with costumed historians, period music, and viewing a black-and-white, silent film of Bald Head Island from the era.

Annual Old Baldy Duck Race
Adopt a duck for $10 or 11 ducks for only $100 for your chance to win $500 and support the Old Baldy Lighthouse. The ducks will race down the Bald Head Creek on Saturday, August 3rd at 11 am and the owner of the winning duck will win $500! Duck owners do not need to be present at the race to win, we will contact the winner and arrange to get you the prize!
Keep a lookout on the island for our volunteers selling ducks or adopt on online!

National Lighthouse Day Festival and Run for the 5k, 10k and One Mile Fun Run!
Enjoy a reenactment festival with a tribute to the Coast Guard, Lighthouse Keepers, Colonial Living, Pirates, Civil War, and Old Baldy history. The festival will include historic reenactors, music, bbq along with beer and wine for purchase!
