It is a common question to ask at dinner parties or while getting to know someone, “If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?”
In the summer of 2006 after graduating from college Meg’s husband, Jon, who was then her boyfriend, asked her this question. This was a turning point in her life and in the story of “Made By Meg” jewelry, but the story really began long before that moment.
Meg Carter grew up in Connecticut, moved to the Carolina coast for her junior year of college, and now says that she is here to stay.
Meg loves the beach and enjoys looking for sharks’ teeth with her husband Jon. They have an extensive collection. There is not much sea glass to be found in this area, so they use it as an excuse to go on vacations!
If you were to ask someone who knows Meg well what color describes her best, she says it would surely be yellow. Meg tries to surround herself with people and things that keep her smiling. Making jewelry is her full time job and sharing it with the world has become her passion.
Before starting Made By Meg Jewelry in November 2008, Meg graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a degree in Studio Art with a concentration in painting. Unfortunately, jewelry design was not a concentration. However, she also loves painting and painting class is where she met her husband.
Besides jewelry making, Meg has tried most forms of visual art. Ceramics, printmaking and drawing are also big on her list of interests. She has always had a passion for the arts. Her first memory as a child is of painting with her easel.
“I love my life and the people in it. I can’t wait to see what the world has to offer me in the future. You never know what each new day will bring.”
