Here’s a fun way to decorate for Valentine’s Day (or just if you like pink) that’s not too overboard! If you’ve got any old mason jars, with just a few items you can make your home or office charmingly festive.
You’ll need:
- 3-5 Mason Jars, varying sizes if possible.
- Twine or jute string
- Acrylic Paint (white and color of choice)
- Paint Brush
- Sandpaper
- Paper and glitter (optional)
- Paint pen or Glue pen and glitter (optional)
Directions:
Separate out paint into 3 separate air-tight resealable containers. Mix two of the paints with white paint in two varying amounts, to yield a dark, lighter, and lightest color spectrum.
Cover each mason jar completely with desired paint color. This will take approximately 2-3 coats to get a consistent, even color. Let paint sit for at least 1-2 hours before re-applying. Re-cover paint between coats, so paint does not dry out.
When all coats have been applied and jars are dry, you can use a piece of sandpaper to rough up a few spots to give it a rustic, vintage look. The logo of the jar is a good place to try. Do this sparingly.
Then cut a piece of twine long enough to tie in a bow around the neck of the jar. At this point, you can attach a charm, paper, or wood cutout onto the twine. Then tie around the neck of the jar in a bow.
You can also add a heart or initials to the outside of the jar with a paint pen or glue pen and glitter.
Add flowers or display as is.
