The New Hanover Garden Club invites you to its second annual Art & the Bloom event Jan. 11-14 at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach.
The event begins with a 6 p.m. preview party on Thursday, Jan. 11, featuring music by Grenoldo Frazier, champagne and desserts prepared by the award winning EAST.
The Art & the Bloom is an exhibition which challenges floral designers to create artistic arrangements that interpret a piece of fine art.
Last year’s event saw over 23 designers representing over 10 regional garden clubs. Half of them were professional master judges.
Many of the other participants were master designers working in the floral trade. The designers were assigned a work of art to interpret through a blind draw. The resulting arrangements were judged and awards presented.
For this years competition the art will consist of juried pieces from private collections and the Wilmington Art Association.
Several workshops and demonstrations will be offered, which include NGC Master Judge and Flower Show School instructors Frances Thrash and Pam Braun, along with noted author Mark Weathington.
An afternoon tea on Friday and Saturday will include sandwiches, scones, desserts and a raffle.
A fashion show of hats will be presented by aMuse: Artisanal Finery.
Founded in 2014, the New Hanover Garden Club is federated by the National Garden Clubs. NHGC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Proceeds from this event will support NHGC’s Hands On programs in New Hanover County.
Some of these projects include restoring gardens at Davis Health and Sherwood Manor Rest home, planting a pink garden for Hospice in honor of breast cancer awareness, Festival of Trees, planting with the children of the Child Development Center, providing mini flower arrangements for Meals on Wheels trays and working with two junior garden clubs.
