Join the good people of Hatteras for a celebration of community heritage in Hatteras Village. Day at the Docks was started to celebrate the “Spirit of Hatteras” when the village recovered from Hurricane Isabel in 2003 as an intact community, anchored by the commercial and charter fishermen. The event is a confirmation of the strength of community, heritage and living traditions of the waterman.
There are competitions, demonstrations, seafood, live music, children’s activities and educational information. The concluding activity is the Blessing of the Fleet. The communities from all over the island gather at the harbor in solemn prayer for the watermen’s safety at sea and their successful catches.
