Hey kids wear your favorite pajamas and be whisked away to the North Pole on our 3rd annual POLAR EXPRESS DAY on Saturday, Dec 16th 9:00AM – 12:00PM!
Ride the train around the block, sip on hot cocoa while you create holiday crafts, and tell Santa himself your holiday wish. The only question to answer is: Do you believe?
Hundreds of children wearing pajamas and clutching jingle bells will be at the Children’s Museum of Wilmington Dec. 16 to hear a reading of The Polar Express, one of the highlights of the museum’s Third Annual Polar Express Day.
More than 200 people are expected at the event, which also allows children to write letters to Santa Claus, make an ornament and ride in a miniature train.
Museum staff members created Polar Express Day because they wanted to hold an event that was fun for children but not extremely costly or complicated to organize.
Children are encouraged to wear pajamas and each one is given a jingle bell. After listening the reading of the classic tale of the young boy who meets Santa Claus after riding a train to the North Pole, children are invited to write their own letters to Santa Claus. In another room, they use paint and stickers to make Christmas decorations and ornaments.
The Museum itself does not have its own parking lot. There are, however, several parking options.
- There is meter parking in front of the Museum along Orange Street. These meters accept credit cards as well as quarters, dimes, and nickels or you can use the app https://www.paybyphone.com/.
On Second Street (adjacent to the Museum) there is free 1 hour parking with no meters.
- The Hannah Block USO parking lot across the street from the Museum offers the following parking rates: Hourly: $1.25, Daily: $7.00, Monthly: $50.00
- The closest parking deck to the Museum is located on Market Street between 2nd and Front St. The first hour is free. The free blue trolley can pick you up and drop you off in front of the Museum.
There is also free parking on several streets in the downtown area. Visit the City of Wilmington’s website for more information about downtown Wilmington parking.
